These international NREN standard applications, tools and infrastructure comprise the fundamental middle layer enabling members to engage in faster, better and different education and research using KAREN.

KAREN video conference service

Collaborate in real-time or view a streamed conference using our video conferencing bridge.

IPTV service trial

KAREN members across the country can now access over 20 free-to-air television and radio streams in high quality from their desktop through TelstraClear’s new IPTV service trial.

National Education Network trial

This trial is connecting schools, polytechnics and content and service providers to KAREN. It will showcase the educational benefits of advanced connectivity and test the architectural principles of the National Education Network.

KAREN NOC services (PoC)

REANNZ has implemented of a suite of open source tools to provide more visibility of the operation and performance of the network to members. These tools will help network technicians to troubleshoot and measure network performance. (This site is only accessible to KAREN members).

KAREN experience programme

This programme offers free KAREN membership to institutes of technology, polytechnics (ITPs) and wānanga for the 2008 calendar year in exchange for trial projects enabled by KAREN.
